SEO and AEO results build in stages, over weeks and months. Quiet numbers in the first few weeks are normal and don’t mean something is broken. Here’s what happens behind the scenes and what to do at each stage.

How a new page gets found

1

Crawled

A search engine or AI tool visits the page. For Google, this takes a few days to a few weeks.
2

Indexed

The page is stored so it can be shown. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on the same index: a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet to appear there.
3

Shown

The page appears for searches (impressions) and can be cited in AI answers.
4

Clicked

People visit, and some become customers.
That’s why impressions show up before clicks, and clicks before enquiries.

Your first months

These are typical review points, not fixed dates. A site that already has content and search traffic starts from a different point than a brand-new one.

Make sure AI tools can find you

Check that your site’s robots.txt doesn’t block these crawlers:

Early signs it’s working

  • More of your pages show as indexed.
  • Impressions are rising, including for searches you didn’t appear for before.
  • AI answers start mentioning or citing you for your tracked prompts.
