# Frequently asked questions

> Straight answers about what RankAI does, your content, results, connections, and billing.

## How it works

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="What does RankAI do for me each month?">
    On a paid plan, RankAI:

    * **Publishes new articles** to your website: 10 a month on Starter, 30 on Growth.
    * **Rewrites published articles** that aren't ranking yet. Rewrites don't count toward your monthly allowance. See [Rewrites and updates](/workflows/optimization).
    * **Fixes technical SEO and AEO issues** you switch on through the [site script](/integrations/technical-seo-script).
    * **Tracks your AI visibility** in ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews, about every 14 days.

    The Free plan runs an audit and a one-time 7-day content plan with sample articles, but doesn't publish. See [Plans and billing](/account/plans-and-billing).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What can RankAI change on my website?">
    Only what you connect it to:

    * **Blog integration:** RankAI adds and edits only the articles it creates. Your existing pages stay untouched.
    * **Technical SEO & AEO script:** applies only the fixes you switch on.

    See [Connect your website](/integrations/overview).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Which website platforms do you support?">WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Framer, Wix, Squarespace, and Sanity, plus any website built with code (Next.js, React, HTML) through RankAI's article API. Using something else? [Contact support](/support/contact) and we'll tell you the best option.</Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Your content

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How do you choose keywords? Can I change them?">
    RankAI picks topics from your business details, your competitors, and your Search Console data, favoring relevance over raw search volume. In **Keywords & Content**, you can:

    * **Add a topic:** **Add Keyword** → **Add Focus Topic**.
    * **Pick keywords yourself:** **Manual Keyword Research**.
    * **Remove a topic:** select it in **Upcoming** and click **Remove**.

    You can't reorder upcoming topics yet. If many topics feel off, update your business and audience details; every future topic uses them. See [Keyword strategy](/workflows/keyword-strategy).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Can I review articles before they go live?">Yes. Turn off **Auto Publish Blogs** in **Settings** → **Site Integration**, and nothing goes live until you open the article in **Keywords & Content** and click **Publish**. Turn it on once you trust the results, and RankAI publishes new articles and rewrites on schedule. See [Review and publish](/workflows/review-and-publish).</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="How do I make articles sound like my brand?">Give RankAI your facts and voice once, and every article uses them. Go to **Settings** → **Project Information**. Use **Business Description** → **Edit** for what you sell and who you serve. Then open **Blog Post Settings** → **Manage**: add instructions like topics to avoid or terms to use under writer notes, and upload reference documents to the **Knowledge base** with **Add document**. The knowledge base reads text, not images, so describe visual brand rules in words. If many drafts get the same thing wrong, fix it there rather than in each article.</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="Will Google penalize AI-written content?">No, not for being AI-written. Google says [appropriate use of AI isn't against its guidelines](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2023/02/google-search-and-ai-content); what matters is whether content is helpful and accurate. RankAI writes each article for your business from your details and research. Still check product claims, prices, and results before you publish, because you know your business best.</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="What are rewrites, and when do they happen?">Every week, RankAI checks your published articles. Articles not updated in the last 14 days that aren't in Google's top 50 yet, or have no search data, get rewritten. With **Auto Publish Blogs** on, the update goes live automatically. Search Console must be connected. See what's waiting in **Analytics** → **Rewrite Queue**. See [Rewrites and updates](/workflows/optimization).</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="Which languages can you write in?">Each article is written in your project's language (set in **Settings** → **Project Information**), including Traditional and Simplified Chinese. You can choose a different language per article in the editor. See [Languages](/workflows/multilingual-articles).</Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Results

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="How long until I see results? Why no leads yet?">
    Results come in stages:

    | When | What's normal |
    | - | - |
    | Weeks 1–4 | Google crawls and indexes new pages. Little traffic yet. |
    | Months 2–3 | Impressions grow, then clicks. |
    | Months 3–6 | Clicks and enquiries become measurable on your best pages. |

    Leads come last, because they need clicks first and a clear next step on your page. If you have clicks but no enquiries, check that each article links to a page where visitors can contact or buy. See [What to expect](/getting-started/first-results).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why do I have impressions but no clicks?">Usually because you're appearing for many searches but not yet near the top: most clicks go to the first few results. It's an early, positive stage. Watch position: as it improves, clicks follow. If a page sits in the top 5 with many impressions and few clicks, its title may not match what searchers want. RankAI's rewrites target exactly these pages. See [Google search metrics](/analytics/seo-metrics).</Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why aren't my pages indexed, or why did I drop out of Google?">
    New pages take [a few days to a few weeks](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/ask-google-to-recrawl) to be indexed. In Search Console, open **URL Inspection** for the page and read the reason:

    * **Discovered or crawled, not indexed:** wait, and make sure other pages link to it.
    * **Excluded by noindex:** a setting in your CMS or one of its plugins is blocking it. Remove it.
    * **Blocked by robots.txt:** update your robots.txt.

    If your whole site dropped, [contact support](/support/contact) right away with the date it happened.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why is my AI visibility 0%? How is it measured?">
    The most common reasons:

    * **No check has run yet.** Checks run about every 14 days after setup, so new prompts show as pending at first.
    * **Tracking started fresh.** If you used RankAI's older AI reports, that history didn't carry over to the new AI Visibility report.
    * **AI tools aren't naming you yet.** That's common early on. Prompts that name your brand are left out, so the number reflects how new customers discover you.

    Visibility = answers that mention your brand ÷ all answers, across ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. Find it in **AI Search Visibility** → **Overview**. Other tools may show different numbers because they ask different questions. See [AI visibility metrics](/ai-visibility/metrics).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My analytics look empty or wrong. What should I check?">Open **Analytics**, check that the right project is selected in the project switcher, and check **Settings** → **Site Integration** → **GSC Connection** shows the right property. Data can lag by a day or two, and brand-new pages have no data yet. Analytics cover RankAI's pages, so totals will be lower than your whole site in Search Console. Still looks wrong? [Contact support](/support/contact) with a screenshot and the date range.</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="Can you tell which ChatGPT question sent me a visitor?">No. AI tools don't share the question someone asked. Your website analytics may show the AI tool as the referring site, but not the prompt. RankAI's [AI visibility report](/ai-visibility/overview) shows which of your tracked prompts mention you.</Accordion>

  <Accordion title="What should I check if progress is missing?">
    | What you see | What to check |
    | - | - |
    | No data anywhere | Project, Search Console property, date range, and reporting delay. |
    | Article exists only in RankAI | Its publishing state and your blog integration. |
    | Live page isn't indexed | **URL Inspection** in Search Console. |
    | Indexed pages get few impressions | Whether the topics match what your customers search for. |
    | Impressions rise but clicks don't | Your position and page titles. |
    | Visits rise but enquiries don't | Your call to action and contact form. |
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Connections

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Why do you need Search Console, and what access do you get?">RankAI uses your Search Console data to pick topics, decide which articles to rewrite, and report your results. Connect it in **Settings** → **Site Integration** → **GSC Connection** → **Connect**. Google asks you to allow Search Console access and site verification. RankAI uses that access to read your search data and submit your sitemap. You need owner or full-user access to the property. See [Google Search Console integration](/integrations/google-search-console).</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="What does the technical SEO & AEO script do? Should I apply every fix?">The script lets RankAI apply technical fixes, such as titles, meta descriptions, and alt text, without editing your CMS. Install it from **Technical SEO** → **Apply Changes**, then review fixes on the same page. The fix list isn't a to-do list: switch on the fixes that fit your site, and leave the rest. If you remove the script, its fixes stop applying. See [Technical SEO & AEO](/workflows/technical-seo).</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="Does publishing update my sitemap?">Most website platforms add new posts to your sitemap automatically, and RankAI also submits your sitemap to Google Search Console every week. See RankAI's list in **Settings** → **Site Integration** → **Open sitemap**. On a website built with code, make sure your sitemap includes the article pages your site displays.</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="Does connecting my blog also connect Search Console?">No. The [blog integration](/integrations/overview), [Search Console](/integrations/google-search-console), and the [technical SEO & AEO script](/integrations/technical-seo-script) are separate connections.</Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Billing and account

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Where do I see my plan limits?">Go to **Settings** → **Current Plan** → **Manage** to see your plan. [Plans and billing](/account/plans-and-billing) lists each plan's monthly articles and tracked prompts. If your account shows something different, [contact support](/support/contact).</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="How do I cancel?">Go to **Settings** → **Current Plan** → **Manage** → **Manage Subscription** → **Cancel subscription**. Need help? [Contact support](/support/contact) with your account email. Never send card details.</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="I was charged twice, or I don't recognize a charge.">[Contact support](/support/contact) with your account email and the date and amount from your statement. We'll look into it right away.</Accordion>
  <Accordion title="How do I get help?">[Contact support](/support/contact). Include your website, the page or article involved, what you expected, and what happened. A screenshot helps.</Accordion>
