# Choose useful AI prompts

> Prompts are the questions RankAI asks AI tools for you. Make them match real buying questions.

**Your prompts decide what your AI visibility report measures.** They should be the questions real customers ask before they buy.

<Note>**Optional.** RankAI suggests prompts for you. Add or adjust them when you know a question your customers ask that's missing.</Note>

## Good prompts look like this

| Customer need | Example prompt |
| - | - |
| Find options | "Which booking tools suit a salon with three staff?" |
| Compare | "How should a small salon compare booking software?" |
| Check you out | "Does Example Salon Software support multiple locations?" |

## Your options

* **Add prompt** for a question that matters to you, or **New topic** to group prompts and get suggestions, up to your plan's limit.
* **Archive** prompts that don't reflect how your customers buy. **Restore** brings them back.
* Add competitors in the **Competitors** card with **+ Add**, or **Track** a suggested brand.

## Avoid these mistakes

* **Only branded prompts.** Prompts that name your brand are left out of your visibility numbers. Use questions customers ask before they know you.
* **Near-duplicates.** Ten versions of the same question don't tell you more than one.
* **Changing the set often.** Keep a stable core so you can compare checks over time.

## What to expect

* New prompts show results after the next check.
* Adding or removing prompts changes your percentages, even if nothing else changed.
